John and Betsey were married in a religious ceremony about 1810. They had two sons and six daughters, named William, George, Finetta, Zilpha, Hattie, Maria, Minnie and Sarah.

Zilpha was born on April 12th, 1812 in Delaware County, New York. She died at the age of 85 on May 6th, 1897 in Fowler, Clinton County, Michigan.
