Melchoir Yant:
Melchoir emigrated at an early day from Switzerland settling neat Easton, Northampton Co., Pennsylvania. The Yant & Shook families moved to western Pennsylvania, Braddock's Field, Allegheny County around 1795. Philip, John and Valentine (or Felty) fought in the Revolution. John lived in Washington Co., PA until about 1802, removing to Tuscarawas Co., Ohio. This region became Carroll County. Attwood Lake is partially on his farm site. Many of his children went to Allen and Putnam Counties. John & Eva are buried near Sherrodsville, Ohio. Valentine lived in Northampton Co., PA before moving to Washington Co., PA. He owned land in Stark Co., Ohio that was deeded to his sons.
John & Valentine served in Col. Kichlein's Battalion, Capt. Arndt's Company which was mustered in Jun 9 1776 as privates. (From Penn's Germans in the Revolutionary War 1775 - 1783.)
