John Wilcocks came to America with his family, all except Ann, whho had married John Hall, Jr. in England and is supposed to have remained there. John Wilcocks was one of the Original Proprietors of Hartford, CT and was probably one of the company of the Reb. Thomas Hooker who removed from Newtown, (now Cambridge) MA in 1636. He lived in a house in a "bend of the little River" in 1639. He accumulated a large amount of land here and there, which was no dobt easy to buy from the Indians at that time.
His name and location of houselot is in the original plan of Hartford as of 1642 by surveys from original records of the distribution of 1639. He is buried in the Center Chursh Burying Ground in Hartford, name on monument with the names of other 1st proprietors. He served as selectman in 1640 and was surveyor in 1643-44-45.
His daughter Sarah, born in England, m. John Biswell and resided in Middletown, CT.
