Matthew Mitchell (1590-1645) came from South Outram Parish, Halifax, Yorkshire, England with Rev. Richard Mather in the 'James' to Boston, Mass in 1635, then moved to Concord, Mass in 1636, signed compact at Springfield, Mass in 1636, removed to Saybrook, Conn, where he was a deputy of the General Court in 1637 which voted war against the Pequot Indians, and he served in the garrison at Saybrook Fort, at Wethersfield, Conn in 1637. He moved to Stamford, Conn in 1640.
