Allen-New England Geneologies-Cutler
Edward Allen, the immigrant ancestor, was b. Eng. and settled as early as 1659 at Ipswich,MA; in 1662 he was occupying a farm owned by Rev. John Norton of Boston; in 1670 his barn was burned by lightening with 60 loads of barley; in 1678 he received a grant of 60 acresof land at Suffield 11-21-1696. In his will dated a week before he died he provided for his 5 younger sons at Suffield and his 2 younger daughters, Elizabeth and Sarah. The older brothers were directed to teach the trade of weaving to the younger sons and when came of age to build each a house and give each a cow. The name was probably correctly spelled Allyn but Allen, Allin and Alline were also used. Allen is most used. Edward Allen was a weaver. He married 11-24-1658 Sarah, daughter of Richard and Margaret (How) Kimball. Two of her brothers were killed by the Indians. She died 6-12-1696 aged about 56 years. Edward may have been related to Samuel Allen whose descentants also lived at Deerfield.
John was killed by Indians at Bloody Brook, Deerfield, MA 5-11-1704.
Sarah (1) died 2-10-1662. Edward died 2-10-1740 in Suffield, CT. Elizabeth d. 6-16-1694.
William d. 11-15-1711. Samuel d. 11-28-1730. Mary d. 10-25-1707, Deerfield, MA.

Came from Scotland in 1636. Was a soldier under Oliver Cromwell. Granted a farm in Dedham in 1649. Moved to Suffield about 1679. Moved to Deerfield in 1685 where he died.
