Philip was born in 1756 in Weare, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire. Philip's father was Phillip Sargent and his mother was Hannah Hadley. His paternal grandparents were Phillip Sargent and Martha Hadley. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named Ebenezer, Joseph, Robert, Samuel, Hannah, Elizabeth, Rachel, Jane, Martha, Sarah and Miriam. He is the second oldest of the twelve children.-
