Martha was born on July 14th, 1725 in Amesbury, Essex County, Massachusetts. Martha's father was Phillip Sargent and her mother was Martha Hadley. Her paternal grandparents were Phillip Sargent and Mary Tewksbury. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Phillip, Abel, Samuel, Noah, Jesse, Rachel, Margaret, Dorothy and Sarah. She was the oldest of the ten children.-
