Willoughby was born on April 2nd, 1795 in Bow, Merrimack County, New Hampshire. Willoughby's father was James Colby and his mother was Susannah Stewart. His paternal grandparents were Willoughby Colby and Sarah Sargent. He had six brothers and three sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Willoughby, Aaron, Levi, Claray, James, Charles Sargent, Abiah, Lucinda, Susannah and Colby. He was the third oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 82 on July 19th, 1877.General Notes
