Richard I was born on September 13th, 1157 in Beaumont Palace, Oxford, England.  Richard I's father was Henry II "FitzEmpress" Plantagenet and his mother was Eleanor d'Aquitaine et Poitou.  His paternal grandparents were Geoffrey V "le Bon" Plantagenet and Maud; his maternal grandparents were William of Poitou and Eleanor Rochefoucauld. He had four brothers and three sisters, named William, Henry, Geoffrey, John "Soft, Eleanor, Joan and Matilda. He had four half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Geoffrey, Bishop of Durham, William, Philippe II Auguste of, Abbess of Barking, Alix, Marguerite of and Marie.  He died at the age of 41 on April 9th, 1199 in Chalus, France.  He was buried in Fontevrault Abbey, France.
