Matilda was born in London, Middlesex, England.  Matilda's father was Henry II "FitzEmpress" Plantagenet and her mother was Eleanor d'Aquitaine et Poitou.  Her paternal grandparents were Geoffrey V "le Bon" Plantagenet and Maud; her maternal grandparents were William of Poitou and Eleanor Rochefoucauld. She had five brothers and two sisters, named William, Henry, Richard I, Geoffrey, John "Soft, Eleanor and Joan. She had four half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Geoffrey, Bishop of Durham, William, Philippe II Auguste of, Abbess of Barking, Alix, Marguerite of and Marie.  She died on July 13th, 1189 in Braunschweig, Germany.  She was buried in Brunswick Cathedral.
