Ludovico was born in Casseuil-sur-Garonne, France (today's Gironde, France).  Ludovico's father was Carolus Magnus and his mother was Hildegarde of Savoy.  His paternal grandparents were Pepin III " le Bref" and Bertrada or Berthe II of Laon; his maternal grandparents were Gerold I von Schwaben and Imma von Schwaben. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Pepin Carloman of, Pippin the, Charles of, Lothar, Alpais, Bertha and Dhuoda. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Hugues "l'Abbe", Hiltrude and Theodrada.  He died in Ingelheim.  He was buried in St. Arnold (Germany).


Ludovico's first family with Ermengarde de Hesbaye

‌Ludovico and Ermengarde were married in a religious ceremony in Hesbaye, Belgium.  They had six sons and six daughters, named Gerard, Arnulf, Pepin, Louis the, Lothar I of, Ludwig II, Aupais of, Hildegarde, Dhouda, Rotrude, Adelaide and Beatrice.


Ludovico's second family with Judith von Andechs

‌Ludovico and Judith were married in a religious ceremony in Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Preussen.  They had a son and two daughters, named Charles I of, Gisele and Adelheid.
