NOTES: It has been suggested to me that my ancestor Lorenzo Pippi is most probably related in some way to Guilio Romano Pippi* (1499-1546) , a prized pupil of Renaissance master Rapheal. I have no confirming documentation as yet, but judging by the way my father had a passion for renaissance frescos and the building of waterfalls, gardens, and gazebos (and often woke us in the early morning with his hammer and saw, knocking down walls and redesigning our home), I would not doubt it! On the other hand, I vaguely recall my father mentioning, while pouring through ancient history pictorial books and seeing some sort of document with the name "Pepin" on it, that he recalled that an aunt or other relative once told him they thought they were descended from King Pepin the Short. In either case, I have no evidence to support, but the search continues.
*According to a biography on Guilio Romano Gianuzzi Pippi, his "...name in full was Giulio di Pietro de Filippo de Giannuzzi, Giannuzzi being the true family name, and Pippi (which has practically superceded Giannuzzi) being an abbreviation from the name of his grandfather Filippo." Whether my PIPPI line was part of that transition from GIANUZZI-to-PIPPI, I know not; I have a genealogist working on this, however. Giulio Romano Pippi had a daughter named Virginia Pippi who married Ercole Malatesa (a surname that is dotted in my maternal line during the middle ages), and he had a son named after his mentor, Raphael.
