The first member of the house of whom we have record is one William, lord of St-Martin d'Aubigny, who is known to have married a sister of Grimald du Plessis before 1047--in which year Grimald was disinherited for having fought in the battle of Vales-Dunes against the young Duke William, the future Conqueror, and his castle of Le Plessis-Grimoult was confiscated and slighted. This William de Albini was also a benefactor, in association with his son Roger, of the neighbouring abbey of Lessay, founded in 1056. [Castle Rising, p. 9-10]
