 CARTER, DAVID, P.O. Plainfield; Farmer, Sec. 26; born in Chatham Co., N.C., Aug.
20, 1793; son of John, born 1752, died 1838, and Jane Brown; settled March, 1823, and
entered 240 acres, present homestead; soon afterward bought most of the land where
Plainfield is.  Married Feb. 13, 1823, in Ohio, to Ruth Hadley, born Nov. 22, 1800, died
April 24, 1869; children--Jane, born Dec. 5, 1823; Matilda, born Sept. 10, 1825; Mary A.
Matthews, Martha A. Barnhill, John M., born May 16, 1831; Orpha Hornaday, died
March 17, 1861; Ara M. Kendall, born Aug. 30, 1838; Zipporah Connarros, died Sept.
25, 1869.
