Her paternal grandparents were William Patrick Warren and Rachel Skaggs; her maternal grandfather was Matthew Skaggs and her maternal grandmother is Mary Catherine Long. She had five brothers and five sisters, named William C., Lewis S., T. B., D., Joseph Daniel, Lucy, Ellen, Elizabeth, Merry M. and Jane. She was the third oldest of the eleven children.
