ALEXANDER CLEVELAND born, it is presumed, either in England or Virgini
a, a bout 1659, died at the plantation of his son, John Cleveland on Bl
ue ru n, in Orange Co., Va., about 1770 (within 3 days of the death of h
is wife ), at the age of 111 years, married perhaps Milly Presley (see bel
ow). H is wife was born (birthplace unknown) about 1667, died at the home
ste ad of her son, John, on Blue Run, about 1770 (within 3 days of the d
ea th of her husband), at the age of 103 years. Evidently had at least t
he f ollowing children, born either in England or in Virginia, perha
ps in Prin ce William Co., Va., on Bull Run. John Cleveland, born about 16
95-1700. Al exander Cleveland, born about 1698-1710. Jeremiah Cleveland, b
orn about 17 00-1712. Micajah Cleveland (conjectured to be a son of Alexan
der), born ab out 1702-1712. Elizabeth Cleveland, born about 1704-1716. Wi
lliam Clevelan d, born about the year 1719, evidently was a son of Alexand
er Cleveland. Alexander Cleveland may have been the original immigrant fr
om Englan d, or his father may have come, bringing him; the notes giv
en in the accou nt of his father may apply to himself. In the entire abse
nce of reliab le records, there must always be a wide field for conjectur
e. John Clevela nd, with his father, the younger Alexander Cleveland, ear
ly migrated to Vi rginia. Settled on the since famous Bull Run, in Prin
ce William Co., Va. R emoved [prior to 1734] some 60 miles to the southwes
t, locating in a bord er settlement on Blue Run, some six or eight miles a
bove its junction wi th the Rapidan, in Orange Co., near the line of Albem
arle; he and wife dyi ng there about 1770, within three days of each othe
r, when about 100 year s. Alexander lived to be 111 years old and his wi
fe 103 years old. Not im probably they had other children than those who
se names (except that of Mi cajah) are correctly given above, accordi
ng to evidence.
John and Alexander were deeded land in Orange Co. 1734. the name of M
ic ajah is not certain,nor is it sure that he was a child of Alexande
r, b ut it seems very probable that he was either a son or a nephew of Ale
xande r, having evidently originated in Va. William Cleveland stated th
at his gr eat-grandmother, or grandmother, was Milly Presley. But it is e
vident th at she was not the wife of Alexander Cleveland. Orange Co., Va

d. 12 pound s, 10 shillings. No will or settlement of estate.
