General Thomas was born in 1866 in Taylor Co., Kentucky.1 General Thomas' father was Hiram Underwood and his mother was Eliza Jane Martin. His paternal grandfather was William C. Underwood and his paternal grandmother is Mariah J. Druien. He had two brothers and three sisters, named William Jackson, John Hamilton, Mariah Elliot, Nancy Ellen and Margaret Jane. He had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Wilson E., Elijah M., Lizzie B., Cely M., Sallie M. and Henry E.. He died at the age of 73 on May 11th, 1939 in Hendricks Co., Indiana.1 General Notes
