t. La st Tuesday , 17th , George Fed Warren fatally stabbed Cal Buck Ska
gg s, at John Fox Warren's on Brush Creek in Green County, about fifteen m
il es from this place. The facts, which came to us from a thoroughly reli
ab le source , are as follows: Warren's father and Skaggs were arguing pol
iti cs and the discussion had become animated. Strong words were employ
ed b ut no licks passed. Suddenly up stepped the son (George Fed Warr
en wi th a long bladed knife in his hand, and, without saying a word, th
ru st it into the breast of Skaggs, the knife being thrust with such for
ce th at the handle bruised the body around the hole made by the blade, T
he kni fe penetrated the heart and Skaggs's blood spurted out, death resul
ting in stantly. As soon as the stab was made Skaggs fell to the ground a
nd nev er spoke afterwards. Owing to the excitement no attempt was ma
de to arre st Warren and he made good his escape, although, at last repor
ts dilige nt search was being made for him. Warren had been recogniz
ed as a man in v ery good standing but of late years had been given to occ
asional drinki ng and carousing.

reensbur g, Kentucy. June 18- Special- Yesterday afternoon at John Fox War
ren's pla ce, on Brush Creek, fourteen miles from here, Cal Brock Skaggs w
as kill ed by George Fed Warren. Skaggs and William Fed Warren, the fath
er of Geor ge, had been engaged in a diffculty and Skaggs was trying to cl
ub the o ld man Warren. When George interfered Call Skaggs turned his atte
ntion a nd club to George. In an instant he was seen to weaken and aband
on the fig ht. He walked a few steps and sat down and was a dead man in fi
ve minute s, having received ten cuts, one in the heart. The parties we
re all mo re or less under the influence of liquor. Skaggs was an old sold
ier and w as regarded as a man of courage. George Warren is a young man ab
out thir ty years old. He is under arrest.

ct t he report of the killing which recently occurred in Green count
y. We publi shed the report as given us by a reliable man, but if we a
re in erro r, we are glad to make the correction and give the gentleman w
ho did the k illing the benfit of Mr. Sutherland's statement, whi
ch is as follows:
Having noticed an erroneous statement in your last week's issue in re
ga rd to the unfortunate affair between G. W. Warren and Calvin Brock Sk
ag gs on the 17th , which resulted in the killing of Skaggs by Warren, I v
ent ure to make a few corrections. There were blows passed between the m
en a nd Warren did not try to evade arrest, but gave himself up to off
ic er J. M. Terrill. The trouble came between Skaggs and Warren's fathe
r, a m an very infirm with age and suffering from the effects of rheumatis
m, a nd also intoxicated to insensibility. A contention arose between t
he old m an and Skaggs, during which he called Skaggs a bastard. Skaggs se
ized a hu ge stick and started at the old man said "I'll break you d---d n
eck if y ou don't take that back." George, the son, interferred by steppi
ng up a nd tellin Skaggs he must desist. Skaggs, turning to George, ask
ed if he to ok it up, and started toward him with a stick, when Joe Skagg
s, Calvin's b rother caught him and wrenched the stick out of his hands. S
