His maternal grandparents were Alva Anderson Lamb and Sarah Jane Graham. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Francis Marson, Washington Lafayette, Wimmath Jane, Samantha Clercy, Sarah Jane and Elizabeth Monroe. He had a half-brother named Richard.
