Sarah Jane was born in April 1889 in Ritchie, Knott Co., Kentucky.1 Sarah Jane's father is John Ritchie and her mother is Synthia Hall. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Grigsby Ritchie and Kissiah Smith. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Silas B., Eli, Jasper, Samuel Marcellus, Martha, Mary and Nerveste.
