Samuel Clifton was born in November 1897 in Clear Creek, Knott Co., Kentucky.1 Samuel Clifton's father was Joshua Ritchie and his mother was Elizabeth Ritchie. His paternal grandfather was Benjamin Ritchie and his paternal grandmother is Rose Ann Combs; his maternal grandfather was Nicholas Ritchie and his maternal grandmother is Rachel Summer. He had two brothers named Henry and Nicholas. He was the oldest of the three children. He had a half-sister named Seattie. He died at the age of 65 on December 8th, 1962 in Perry.1 General Notes
