His paternal grandfather was James Monroe Ritchie and his paternal grandmother is Hannah Fugate. He had four brothers and a sister, named Jack, Alex, Joel, Henry and Polly. He was the oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 92 on December 29th, 1970 in Knott Co., Kentucky. He was buried in Ritchie Cemetery, Talcum, Knott Co., Kentucky.1 1 General Notes
