Joseph Russell Prestridge 
Joseph Russell was born on August 30th, 1866 in Mount Sterling, Choctaw Co., Alabama.1 Joseph Russell's father was Joseph Benjamin Prestridge and his mother was Sarah Almeida Fenley. His paternal grandparents were James Madison Prestridge and Emily S. Ezell; his maternal grandparents are John Fenley and Elizabeth Jane Nunn. He had three brothers and three sisters, named James Ezell, John Fenley, Willie Edmund, Imogene, Ruth Edna and Ila Dell. He was the oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 19 on October 29th, 1885 in Alvarado, Johnson Co., Texas.1 General Notes

Joseph Russell Prestridge was six weeks old when his parents moved to T
ex as in October - December, 1866. They traveled in a covered wagon pu
ll ed by an ox team.
Joe Russell's death was from Dengue Fever. He had been to Lampasas, T
ex as to a State of Texas National Guard encampment in June of 1885. So
on af ter his arrival back in Alvarado, he became ill, and died shortly th
ereaft er. Dengue Fever is spread and/or caused by mosquitoes.
Rachel Prestridge Boteler has a souvenier Joe Russell brought home fr
om t he encampment.
