Ellen Jane was born on July 6th, 1848 in Sumpter Co., Alabama.1 Ellen Jane's father was Benjamin Bagley Prestridge and her mother was Georgie Ann Compton. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph N. Prestridge and Elizabeth D. Bagley. She had six half-brothers and two half-sisters, named James Burton, William Ashmund, George Harris, Benjamine Babley, Jr., Charles Henry, Joseph Gideon, Sarah Elizabeth and Nancy Ann.-
