Larkin was born in 1797 in NORTH CAROLINA.1 Larkin's father was James Pendley and his mother was Amelia Moness Smith. His maternal grandparents are Solomon Smith and Nancy UNKNOWN. He had eight brothers and two sisters, named Austin, Joseph, Solomon, Smith, James, John Levi, William, Alfred, Lydia Elena and Amelia Matilda.
