John was born in March 1740 in Hopewell Township, Huterdon , New Jersey.1 John's father was Henry Oxley and his mother is Mary Everit. His paternal grandfather is Henry Oxley; his maternal grandparents are Richard Everit and Catherine Lewis. He had a sister named Rachel.
