Henry Fossett. The Indians had carefully sk irted t he white settlements in an effort to avoid trouble, but were overt ak en at the junction of Spring and Dove Creeks where the battle took p la ce on Jan. 8, 1865. The Texans were severely defeated and lost 36 me n, amo ng them John Keahey. About 60 others were wounded before Capt. Foss ett ret reated to the Colorado River. The Indians lost 11 killed and 31 wo unded, b ut continued on their way to Mexico. John was a pioneer who made shoes and spinning wheels.
