Joe Annie was born on January 22nd, 1876.1 Joe Annie's father was Joseph Milton Giles and her mother was Margaret Clementine McCowen. Her paternal grandparents were Milton Giles and Mary Ladd Majors; her maternal grandfather is James F. McCowen and her maternal grandmother was Elizabeth Manly. She had three brothers and six sisters, named James Milton, Noble M., John Irwin, Mary Elizabeth, Laudie Eldora, Henry Francis, Rosie Lynn, Lula May and Lillian Janice.
