Joseph Ambrose and Sabrena Howard Durbin were unable to read or writ
e. No family record was kept. Joseph Ambrose Durbin served in the Civ
il War for the Union. And while Joseph Ambrose Durbin was
in service he became ill or injured and came home to Estill County. H
is son Edwin Francis took his place at sixteen years of age and was train
ed in the cavalry. According to the
1850 Census of Estill County, Kentucky, the children of Joseph Ambrose a
nd Sabrena Howard were; Marcus L. and Edwin F.1860 Census of Estill Count
y, Kentucky, the children were Lafayette, Edwin F.
Anderson Walker, George Ann, Sarah D., Ambrose F. Family tradition list
ed the children as Lafayette, Edwin Francis, George Anna, Sarah, Robert, G
ifford. Perhaps Robert followed Edwin in line or
perhaps he was born after the 1860 Census. Robert, who was called Unc
