Richard Steele was born on February 3rd, 1837 in Statesville, Iredell Co., North Carolina.1 Richard Steele's father was Milas Alexander Davidson and his mother was Dovey Robison. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Davidson and Sarah Nesbit. He had five brothers and three sisters, named William Clinton, Joseph Oscar, John Rice, Robert Quincy, George Spruce, Laura, Dovey Amanda and Baby Daughter. He was the third oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 74 on April 24th, 1911 in Paradise Valley, Chickasaw, Mississippi.
