Veron was born in Knott Co., Kentucky.1 Veron's father is George Washington Combs and his mother is Kathleen Combs. His paternal grandfather is Matthew Combs and his paternal grandmother was Ann Ritchie. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Ernest, Hugo, Elsie, Bertha, Laura B., Alpha, Lassie and Unknown.
