CANNON REMAINS TAKEN TO BRAYTON
Body of E.W. Cannon, Killed in Auto
Accident Near The Bluffs, Taken
to Brayton Yesterday - Percy
Hallock Is Recovering
The remains of E.W. Cannon, whose death in an auto accident near Co
un cil Bluffs, in which Percy Halleck was also injured, was told of in th
is p aper yesterday, were taken to Brayton, near which place the deceas
ed liv ed on the Halleck places. The deceased had no daughter, that state
me nt in this paper last evening being an error.
Percy Halleck, who was driving the car, is doing nicely at Mercy ho
sp ital in the Bluffs. He was not seriously injured in the mix up, one sh
oul der being badly bruised and he was badly shaken up otherwise. The acc
ide nt was the result of his miscalculating the distance as he made t
he tu rn at the corner and went onto the bridge. He did not make the prop
er tu rn and realized too late to stop the car. The car went on top of t
he t wo men, and pinned them down so that they could not move. Mr. Can
no n, as previously stated in this paper, was drowned in the mud and wat
er a nd had not a scratch on him, and Mr. Halleck was unconscious, large
ly fr om the fumes of the gasoline which had leaked from the overturned ca
r. Wh en help came it was just in time, as had it not arrived when it d
id the re would have been two dead men instead of one, as from the shock a
nd brea thing the gasoline fumes he was nearly gone.
The car in which the men were riding when the accident occurred w
as n ot a new car, as was stated, but the Cadillac roadster owned by Mr. H
allec k. The car was gotten out of the ditch and taken to Omaha for repa
ir s. It was not damaged as badly as one would think, although bang
ed up qui te a bit.
John Curry and wife, who went to the Bluffs on account of the accid
en t, are home.

The two men were from Brayton, Iowa and had been to Council Bluffs a

The accident was first discovered by Charley Vesson who resides on t

While the party was making an effort to remove the two men from the wre
ck age, another machine
occupied by Jacob Spietzberger and A.L. Sternberg drove up. This mac

ll be neces sary in passing over it at night until it is fixed. Lanter

It is understood that the machine a Cadallac which Cannon and Halloc
k, we re driving, was new and had only been purchased during the day.
