I do not have definite proof that the John Burton family in Hood Co
., TX 1 880 census is our ancestors. Research of the entire 1880 TX cens
us resul ts in this family being the only Melinda Burton with a son Thom
as bo rn in 1880. The ladies working in the National Archives advis
ed me to fol low this lead, at least until proven wrong, because there we
re too many c ommon factors and disregard the birth date and state differe
nces. Note t he difference in the age and birth location on the 2 censu
s, which fr om my experience is not unusual.
