Toy Egbert Bassham 
Toy Egbert was born about October 1881 in Crawford Co., Arkansas.1 Toy Egbert's father was William Pleasant Bassham and his mother was Kittura B (Kitty) Matlock. His paternal grandparents were John M. Basham and Louisa Caroline Riles; his maternal grandfather is William Armstrong Matlock. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Calvin Martin, Steve Pleasant, Henry Jimmy, Anna Gertrude (Gerty), Cornelia M (Nettie), Jetty Lee, Roxa Raymul and Lida Jane. He was the oldest of the nine children. He died about 1959 in Arkansas.1 General Notes

fe in S an Francisco when he was there during gold rush days. He was a pro
minent a rchitect in Ft Smith and Van Buren. He designed his tombstone. T
he flower es were copied and put on his son's (Pappy) marker. There is a s
un di al up the hill from his grave a few yards that he designed. The insc
ripti on reads "Let others tell of storms and showers, I'll only mark yo
