LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF SAMUEL H. BASHAM Lawrence Co., Tennessee
Oct Term 1850 Lawrence County Tennessee
I Samuel H. Basham do make this my last will and testament in t
he na me of God Amen.
I Samuel H. Basham being weak in body (sic) but of sound and perfe
ct mi nd and memory blessed be God for the same do make in this manner a
nd fo rm following that is to say.
First I bequeath to God my soul who gave it.
Secondly that all my debt and funeral expenses be paid out of my prope
rt y. Thirdly I bequeath to my beloved wife Mary my plantation or tra
ct of l and that I now live on her life time or during her widowhood, at h
er dea th or marriage to be equally divided between my three children vi
z; Nan cy Elizabeth, and James S., and Drury Basham my heirs at law, al
so to my b eloved wife all my household and kitchen furniture, also eig
ht of my choi ce hogs, four head of sheep, also what wheat I have on han
d, also forty ba rrels of corn, also one mare named Blacky, one lady's sad
dle, and also a ll the poultry of all kinds and description, and also o
ne cow called Ros e, and calf, all of the above described property I beque
ath to my belov ed wife Mary her life time or during her widowhood, b
ut at her death or ma rriage to be sold at public vandue and equally distr
ibuted between my thr ee children that is, Nancy E., James S., and Dru
ry W. Basham. And I wi ll and bequeath that all the balance of my proper
ty of every kind and desc ription that I am seized and possess
ed of to be sold at public vandue a nd after my debts being paid the remai
nder to be equally distributed betwe en my three children above named to w
it; Nancy E., James S., and Dru ry W. Basham my heirs at law.
And I hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every oth
er wi ll and testament heretofore by me made confirming this and no o
th er to be my last will and testament heretofore by me made confirmi
ng th is and no other to be my last will and testament. And I hereby wi
ll and ap point Hiram F. Appleton executor to this my last will and testam
ent. In wi tness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal t
his the 29 th day of August 1850.
