J. D. was born on October 19th, 1910 in Ganado, Jackson Co., Texas.1 J. D.'s father was Phinis Malcome Bassham and his mother was Minnie Lee (Golie) Barrett. His paternal grandparents were Francis Marion (Frank) Bassham and Louisa Lucretia (Lucy) Popnoe. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Frank Leuman (Buster), Othela, Fred Malcolm, Ira 'Sewella' Grace and Patricia 'Maye'. He had a half-brother named Living. He died at the age of 67 on December 6th, 1977 in Jackson Co., Texas.1 General Notes
