Essie Mae was born on July 15th, 1905 in Bonham, Fannin Co., Texas.1 Essie Mae's father was Edward Franklin (Edd) Bassham and her mother was Naoma Ann (Oma) Harvey. Her paternal grandparents were Francis Marion (Frank) Bassham and Louisa Lucretia (Lucy) Popnoe. She had three brothers and a sister, named Chester Lafayette, Theylous 'Cullen', Arlie Doyle and Nova Nell. She is the second oldest of the five children.General Notes
