He appears in the 1850 census in Pontotoc Co Miss wi th wi fe Sarah and four children. The family apparently moved from Alaba ma to M ississippi about 1847. He appears in the 1869 census in Oklaho ma Indian T erritory with 7 children and a wife named Mary. It is assumed that his first wife Sarah died between 1850 and 1860 a nd Ze dekiah married this younger woman, Mary, in order to help raise t he childr en. His occupation in both 1850 and 1860 censuses is blacksmit h. Zedeki ah is shown to have been born in Tennessee. There are many possi bilities f or his parents since there are several Basham families with you ng childr en in the 1830 Tennessee census. Family history says that Zedeki ah died wh ile treating the dead and wounded probably in the Civil War.
