Obediah Peyton was born on August 3rd, 1841 in Breckenridge Co., Kentucky.1 Obediah Peyton's father was Henry Dowell Basham and his mother was Cassandra Hardin. His paternal grandparents were Obediah Basham and Celia Dowell; his maternal grandparents were Daniel Hardin and Alice (Alsey) Jolly. He had seven brothers and five sisters, named Thomas Washington, Francis Logan, Daniel Hardin, James Allen, Henry Nelson, Joel Hardin, Madison, Alice Jolly, Celia Dowell, Martha Ann (Mattie), Mary and Louisa Ellen.
