Nathan, Sr. was born after 1775 in Virginia.1 Nathan, Sr.'s father was James Basham and his mother was Frances (Mary) Taylor. His paternal grandparents were William Basham and Sarah (Agness) Angel; his maternal grandparents were Benjamin Taylor and Elizabeth Unknown. He had a brother and a sister, named John and Fanny.
