Loma Esther Basham 
Loma Esther was born on September 26th, 1884 in Bedford Co., Virginia.1 Loma Esther's father was Callahill M. (Calvin) Basham and her mother was Ludelphia Bethina (Bethyl) Creasy. Her paternal grandparents were Elijah Basham and Lucinda Pagans. She had three brothers and three sisters, named William Thomas (Tom), Robert Hayes, Richard, Florence G, Sarah L. (Sally) and Lucinda. She was the second youngest of the seven children. She died at the age of 66 on December 10th, 1950.1 General Notes

Loma Esther Basham, my mother, was born September 26, 1884 in Bedford Co
un ty Virginia, married my father, Richard Turpin Grissom on February 2
5, 191 1. Mom died December 10, 1950 at the age of 66. Dad died Decemb
er 16, 19 61, and was buried on what would have been his 78th birthday. B
oth are bu ried here in Portsmouth. My oldest brother, James Herbert (alw
ays kno wn as Herb) was born July 4, 1911 (Yes, I know pretty soon after t
he weddi ng). Several years after my Dad's death, I found a wooden b
ox he always k ept tucked away on the top shelf of a closet, and in that b
ox was, among o ther things, their marriage certificate. They were marri
ed in Roanoke Cou nty Virginia. Dad was working for the N&W RR and was tr
ansferred from Roa noke to Columbus, Ohio, in the late 1910 or early 191
1, where my two broth ers and I were born. Howard Woodrow was born Nov 2
