John Torance was born on July 7th, 1883 in Oelwin, Fayette Co., Iowa.1 John Torance's father was Charles Wallace (Rev) Basham and his mother was Elinor Louise Smith. His paternal grandparents were Charles Basham and Louisa Wallace; his maternal grandfather was John T. Smith and his maternal grandmother is Hannah Boyd. He had two brothers and a sister, named Charles Oliver, Arthur Wallace and Elinor Louise. He was the oldest of the four children. He died at the age of 87 on April 15th, 1971 in Marshalltown, Marshall Co., Iowa.1 General Notes
