Edith Garnet was born on March 3rd, 1917 in Winfield, Putnam Co., West Virgini.1 Edith Garnet's father was Robert Hugh Basham and her mother was Sarah Malinda Hatcher. Her paternal grandparents were William Blane Basham and Juliana Lydia Lilly; her maternal grandparents were John Edmund Charles Lewis Hatcher and Eliza Lilly. She had nine brothers and five sisters, named Gracie May, Gilbert Ezra, Charles William, George Wesley (Twin), James Herford (Twin), Michael Fenton, Joseph Dale, Luther Bee, Sarah Marie, Bertha Lee, Clara Bell, Nellie Rose, Elizabeth Lillian and Ruby Pearl. She is the youngest of the fifteen children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Roy Lesley and Ada Ethyl.General Notes
