Amherst Sheridan was born on September 15th, 1893 in Floyd Co., Virginia.1 Amherst Sheridan's father was James Haden Basham and his mother was Laura Ellen Lawrence. His paternal grandparents were Hillory H. Basham and Sarah Ridinger. He had three brothers named Albert Andrew, Hersy Grant and Mary Grace. He was the second youngest of the four children.
