Sometimes called "Short Johnnie" to distinguish him from John Peery,
called "Long John" who was the son of James Peery.
Short Johnnie was a distiller and made apple and peach brandy as well as
corn whiskey.
John and his son Thomas fought in the Revolutionary War. Thomas was
killed, and John received 54 saber wounds inflicted by Tarleton's British
troopers while he was lying helpless on the ground. This was at the
battle at Guilford Court House in North Carolina, 15 Mar 1781.
His will was probated in Aug 1844.

John and Sarah were married in a religious ceremony about 1759.1 They had five sons named Thomas, John, David, Solomon and James.
