About the year 1800 one James Lawson, pioneer and an Englishman, living
at the head waters of Dan River in Patrick County, Va., now known as
Meadows of Dan, married Ticie Cox, sister of Captain James and John Cox,
then living on Big Reed Island River in Carroll County, Va. To this
couple there was born one son, William Lawson, born in the year 1802.. His name was William Madison Lawson and he died October 4, 1864. William married Anne Thompson, daughter of Henry and Lucy Harris Thompson. During the civil war he had 6 sons serving in the confederate army. Madison Thompson, Jefferson, Captain; Wilson, Zack. At the age of 35, William became the first pastor of the old Concord Primitive Baptist Church in Meadows of Dan, Va,
