"Reuben Gilmore came to Union Co from Florida around 1850. He homesteaded 640 acres of land seven miles south of where Strong now stands. He fought in the Civil War from 1862-1865. He gave the land for the Good Hope Primitive Baptist Church and Cemetery which is located near the Louisiana line seven mile south of Strong."
