th e city .  I t is possibl e that the ful l lor dsh ip of Vernon pa ss ed
to
this family so metime b etween these dates.  Ea rly i n the reign of Duke
W illiam he had g i ven Vernon to hi s cous in Guy of Bu rg un dy, and
Guy's
disgr ac e and forfei ture afte r 104 7 may well have p rov ided th e
