When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in herwomb.

The first to come out was red, and his whole body was like a hairygarment; so they named him Esau. [1]

After this, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau's heel; sohe was named Jacob. [2] Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah gave birthto them.
[25] Esau may mean hairy; he was also called Edom, which means red.
[26] Jacob means he grasps the heel (figuratively, he deceives).
