WILLIAM RATCLIFFE Wife's name unknown. Married about 1760, probablyin Virginia. William was born about 1730, in Henry, Augusta, orBotetourt County, Virginia, died between 1821 and 1825, possibly theson of Richard Ratliff, who had a farm close to one that Williamowned. William was a farmer. In March 1783, William was in Trigg'sCompany of Montgomery County, Virginia Militia that included WilliamRatliff, Nathan Ratliff, and Richard Ratliff. William owned propertyin Augusta, Botetourt, and Montgomery Counties in Virginia, all ofthese were first Augusta County, then were cut into Botetourt andfinally Montgomery. William could have lived in one place all the timeand the names changed around him. William received a grant of 180acres on Cedar Run of Elliott's Creek adjoining Martin's land on April15, 1796, in that portion of Botetourt County which was annexed toMontgomery County, Virginia in 1789. In the meantime William and hisfamily plus part of Nathan's family, had moved to Russell County,Virginia in 1787. In about 1797 they moved to Kentucky. Williampossibly may have had other children Jake, born about 1750; John, bornabout 1752; Shadrack, born about 1754; Reuben, born about 1759 andmarried Frances; William Jr., born about 1767; and Peggy, born about1771 and married William Harrel.
